How to use Foniks with Zoom
Zoom lets you pick any microphone and speaker, so Foniks plugs straight in. Set it once and it is remembered for every meeting.
Step by step
- 1
Open Zoom’s audio settings
In the Zoom desktop app, open Settings and choose Audio. You can also click the arrow next to the mute button during a meeting.
- 2
Choose cable 1 as the microphone
Set Microphone to BlackHole 2ch on macOS or CABLE Output on Windows. Turn off “Automatically adjust microphone volume”.
- 3
Choose cable 2 as the speaker
Set Speaker to BlackHole 16ch on macOS or CABLE-A Input on Windows, so Foniks can hear the other side.
- 4
Start Foniks and join
Press Start in Foniks, then join the meeting. The meters in Foniks move when either side speaks.

If something sounds off
- The translated voice cuts in and out
- Set Zoom’s background noise suppression to Low so it does not treat the translated voice as noise.
- The other person hears an echo
- Wear headphones and make sure Foniks plays to your headphones, not to cable 1.
