Changelog
What’s new.
Every change to the app, the console and the website, newest first. The app updates itself when a new version is out.
App 0.4.7: no second cable to hear the call
- On Mac (macOS 14.6 or later) and Windows, Foniks can listen to your computer’s own sound, so the call plays on your speakers or headphones as usual.
- On laptop speakers, Foniks stops listening while it speaks a translation to you, so it never translates itself.
App 0.4.6: connection dot and diagnostics
- A dot in the title bar shows your connection in green, yellow or red, with the delay in milliseconds.
- Copy diagnostics in the menu puts a log of what went wrong on your clipboard for support. It never includes audio or captions.
- Translate what I hear starts off, so a laptop’s microphone and speakers work right away.
App 0.4.5: first-run audio guide
- A five-step guide opens the first time and walks you from nothing to a working call.
- Foniks finds BlackHole or VB-CABLE by itself, and notices when you install one.
- It plays a test chime through the cable to prove your translated voice reaches the call.
- It names the exact microphone to pick in Zoom, Teams or Meet.
Help center and service status
- A help center with answers for sound problems, every message the app shows, and workspace questions.
- A status page that checks the website, sign-in and translation every minute.
App 0.4.4: light and dark mode
- Foniks follows your system’s light or dark setting, or pick one with the sun and moon button.
App 0.4.3: two-step sign-in and clearer messages
- The app asks for your authenticator code when you or your workspace use two-step sign-in.
- When something goes wrong, the app says what happened and what to do next.
- Crash reports help us fix problems faster. They never include your audio or transcripts.
Two-step verification
- Add an authenticator app to your account.
- Owners can require two-step sign-in for the whole workspace, and reset it for a member who lost their phone.
Workspace language defaults
- Admins set the default languages and voice for everyone. Each person can still choose their own.
- The app picks up the workspace defaults when you sign in.
App 0.4.1 and 0.4.2: in-app updates
- Foniks checks for new versions and installs them in one click.
- The Mac app is signed and notarized by Apple.
Usage alerts, exports and self-serve joining
- Email alerts when the workspace nears its monthly hours.
- Export members, usage and your data as CSV files.
- Let anyone with your company email domain join the workspace.
- Shared workspace terms, so names and jargon translate the same way for everyone.
Setup guides and comparisons
- Step-by-step guides for Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.
- Foniks compared with interpreters and live captions.
App 0.3 and 0.4: live interpreting
- Live mode translates as you speak, about one to two seconds behind.
- Terms mode waits for each pause and uses your workspace terms.
- Translation now runs on Google’s Gemini models.
App 0.1 and 0.2: first release
- Two-way voice translation for any call app, through a virtual audio cable.
- Live captions, a mute key, a choice of voices and a transcript you can copy.
